The primary focus of our business is information systems software. This involves computers and communication which have given rise to some of the most controversial issues of our age. On this page we offer our own editorial contribution.

Convergent Technologies

Technologies that have been developed for specific purposes sometimes come together with others to generate results that may never have been envisioned by the original developers. This phenomenon of convergent technologies has become more prevalent in recent years in the world of information systems.

The internet has provided a cauldron for lots of technological merging. Teenagers are beginning to replace the telephone with interactive messaging(e.g. ICQ) and with the addition of surprisingly inexpensive video interfaces they can now watch each other as they engage in the timeless protocol "whaddayouwannado?..idunnowhaddayouwannado?". Can Dick Tracy's two-way wrist TV be far behind?

Probably the most significant convergence in the information systems melieu has been that between the personal computer and  corporate information systems. In fact the evolution of the desktop platform itself resulted in the convergence of many technologies. Although the integration of the PC and its Microsoft user interface has been predominant there are plenty of other examples of technological convergence not the least of which is the expanding use of internet technology in corporate information systems.

WISL has participated in these activities in development of its own products. PC integration and web development have been prominent but integration of barcode scanning technology and specialized process control systems with corporate information systems are notable in recent WISL efforts. The latest example of the phenomenon in WISL development is the integration of pager technology with WISL Dispatch.
