Yawney Kels
We have been working with Yawney for almost 15 years. He was
involved in the initial implementation of the computerized retail management system and
point of sale facility at the McMaster University Bookstore in the late 80's. He
eventually became the primary support resource for the McMaster University Bookstore
information systems for more than a decade. Yawney tacked on many embellishments and
developed some stand-alone information systems during this period on an aging multi-value
DBMS computing environment. As a result Yawney's expertise in information
systems(including the more technical matters) far outstrips that of most other customers.
During the inevitable upgrade to the Bookstore's
computing environment Yawney's contribution was vital. In converting the Bookstore's DBMS
and replacing some of the functionality that Yawney had added, some significant
embellishments were made to WATPOS. Included in these were streamlining of accounting
system interfaces, improved reporting and bookclub processing. The actual conversion to
the new platform was also facilitated significantly by resourceful approaches developed in
cooperation with Yawney.

We wouldn't accuse Yawney of being a Trekkie but
posters of Star Trek movies adorn his office walls, a cardboard model of the Enterprise
hangs from his ceiling and he does a mean four fingered salute.
